Hartshill is a village in the borough of North Warwickshire, the town of Nuneaton is 3 miles to the south east and the town of Atherstone is 3 miles to the northwest. Hartshill is only a few miles from the officially recognised centre of England. Hartshill is famous for the writer Michael Drayton who knew William Shakespeare. Michael Drayton was born at Chapel Cottage in Hartshill Green in 1563. A school built in Hartshill bears his name.
In Hartshill there was a motte and bailey castle, the remains of this can still be seen. There is no public access to the castle but a footpath runs down the side of it. Hartshill Hayes Country park covers 137 acres of woodland and the open hilltop has magnificent views across the Anker Valley. The Country park is run by Warwickshire County Council and there are several picturesque walk through the woodland.
A stopping point for leisure canal boats is Hartshill Canal Yard on the Coventry Canal. Built in 1773 to transport stone from the local quarries it contains a variety of buildings used by British Waterways. The canal pathways are very pleasant to walk towards either Nuneaton or Atherstone
The magazine is published quarterly by the United Churches of Hartshill, Chapel End and Galley Common. It contains information of Church and village activities.
The United Churches hold several ecumenical services together during the year. On Good Friday there is a walk of Witness through the village and in June each year there is an open air service on the hilltop of Hartshill Hayes Country Park.
