The Methodist chapel at Barnacle is the only place of worship in the hamlet. It is unique in Methodist churches in Coventry in being the only one with its own graveyard. The original date stone has been retained showing that the Methodist Church in Barnacle dates from 1844, and as such is one of the oldest surviving Methodist Church buildings in the Coventry Circuit. For over 150 years it has continued its witness, firstly in the farming community it was built to serve and now in the completely different environment of a largely commuter village.
The chapel had begun to show the rigours of such long service, but was completely refurbished in 1999 and given a new lease of life. The original front door was filled in and a new entrance created on the south side of the building. The interior was completely switched around so that the sanctuary is now at the original entrance end and the entrance is now at what was the sanctuary end of the building. New kitchen and toilet facilities were installed and the whole building was redecorated throughout.
Some of the original pews have been retained, after a major cleaning process to remove the accumulated grime of many years, and chairs have been added to give us a more flexible worship area.
